2009 Deb Interview: Danielle Joseph

Before we get on to our interview, I just want to remind anyone in the San Francisco Bay Area that my book launch party will be this coming Saturday at 7 pm at Book Passage in Corte Madera, CA. You are all officially invited   So if you live anywhere near by and can make it, come out, it should be a lot of fun: food, prizes, books, what could be better?

On to the interview! Stopping by today is Danielle Joseph, author of the rocking Shrinking Violet. Seriously, I read this book and it was so cute! I highly recommend it. And isn't the cover sweet?

Here's what it's about:

For high school senior Teresa Adams, every day is an ordeal. She’s so painfully shy that she lives in dread of having to speak to anyone in the hallways or answer questions in class. But after school, in the privacy of her bedroom with her iPod in hand, she rocks—doing mock broadcasts for Miami’s hottest FM radio station, which happens to be owned by her stepfather. When a slot opens up, Tere surprises herself by working up the nerve to ask her stepfather to give her a chance—and finds herself The SLAM’s newest intern on one of the station’s most popular shows. Behind the mike she’s Sweet T, her sexy, confident on-air persona. To everyone’s shock—especially her mother’s—Sweet T is a hit. Even Gavin, the only guy in school who she dares to talk to, raves about the mysterious DJ’s awesome taste in music, making Tere wonder if it’s possible to be jealous of yourself. But when The SLAM announces a songwriting contest—and a prom date with “Sweet T” is the grand prize--Sweet T’s dream could turn into Tere’s worst nightmare. . . .

On to my favorite questions:

1)    Tell us one thing you love about your book’s story or your characters.

That they could be real people with the same fears, dreams and emotions as you.

2) Where is your favorite place to write? What is your writing process like?

I enjoy writing new scenes at my local Starbucks and I like to edit in my home office. So I might write at Starbucks whatever flows from my brain and reread when I get home.

3) Tell us about one dream you’ve chased in your life (other than getting a novel published) and how it turned out.

Good question! I've always wanted to have a walk on role in a movie. I'll let you know when that happens!

Thanks, Danielle! We’ll be watching for you
